HelenP* Donvan “~Catching Breezes~” I am a self taught artist For the most part. I have always sketched and doodled. In the ‘90’s I was blessed with briefly studying with Richard L. Nelson in Maui who taught the Interaction of Colors and “TRI ~ HUE” color technique. Richard answered my life long questions about mixing colors and harmony. In 2002 I was gifted with a 2 month life changing stay in Bali. I traveled with sketch book in hand and my 3 color paint box and ~Batik style painting on fabric found me! Silk painting opens the door of my soul allowing me to express and share a bit of myself. I live in Bozeman, Montana where I have organized the summer Plein Air program for SMArts (Southwest Montana Artists) for 5 years. Painting out in nature, I find inspiration magnified through the sounds, sights, and fragrances, carried on the breezes and ever changing light. I often Work in narrow venues: 11" X 60" or 14" X 72" which I feel facilitates expressing "A Slice OF Life". This long, narrow format imposes its limitations and challenges, yet offers opportunities for a unique view point. I like to tell stories with colors and familiar scenes and feelings. Whenever possible I choose to immerse all my senses in our great outdoors. Opening myself to the essence of the Breezes in the clouds and trees, the rivers flowing, the birds calling ~ all influence each new painting. It is such a joy, an honor really. I am honored to have received 1st place in the 2015 “Plein Air on the Yellowstone” show in the contemporary art category. When our fabulous Bozeman Library was first opened with the “Bozeman Book Brigade”, I created an 11”x 60” painting of this historic event, and donated it. It hangs in the children’s section of the library over their coat rack. ~These Panoramas of our natural world~ are designed to be displayed as fine wall art that can move ever so gently as they catches breezes and then the added bonus ~ they can readily be wrapped gently around you as a luxurious silk accessory which may, if you are listening, generously whisper natures secrets to you as they are enhancing your unique dressing style. I have designed what I call a “Breezer” ~ (a matting and frame made of fabric). This allows you to display these Sensual and Luxurious Silk Paintings as Fine Art pieces. Then Presto! ~ These “Breezes” (Scarves) are easily removed and ready for you to wrap around yourself ~ Listen gently ~ they may just whisper their hidden stories to you. ~Perfect accessory for all occasions~ Sharing this art and the magical world of colors with others through designing workshops doubles it's blessings. I gave Mother’s Day workshops for daughters to each paint silk hankies to gift their Senior Moms ~ both at Aspen Pointe and Spring Meadows Assisted Living facilities. At the Belgrade Public Library, during my Artist’s reception for a show there, I invited the community ~ all ages to join me in painting the Library’s new logo on a 25”X 25” silk banner as they learned a bit about the fun art of painting on silk. They have framed this piece and it now hangs in their library’s entrance. Allow me the privilege to share this art form with you in one of my workshops. Private or small group. In studio or on location. Silk is sensual and generous. I delight in experiencing the joy and surprise of "non artists" as they find themselves creating their very own masterpieces! Everyone is capable of ~and guaranteed to ~ Enjoy designing and painting their own lovely and unique creation. A Gift for all!! Gratitude, Passion, and Joy!
